Isvidd — By the Other Side of Midnight (Lyric Video)

Isvidd is a one-man atmospheric black metal project from Sweden, and Björn mailed this lyric video in himself after seeing our Trivan feature. Melodic black metal with acoustic passages and northern melancholy, from a project that has a whole debut album recorded and is releasing it single by single. The underground keeps finding our front door. Good.

Third one through the front door, and the chain is becoming the story. Maidenhead found our Inbox invitation. Trivan read the site and mailed us from Zagreb. And now Björn from Isvidd writes that the Trivan feature is what encouraged him to get in touch. Underground musicians pointing each other at our mailbox, in effect. There is no metric for that, but it beats any search record.

Isvidd is a one-man atmospheric black metal project from Sweden. By the Other Side of Midnight does what the best of this genre does: tremolo and rasp up front, but with acoustic passages and ambient textures that let the cold in instead of just the noise. There are clean moments in here that feel like stepping out of the rehearsal room into the snow.

What convinced me to feature it is the plan behind it. The debut album is fully recorded and being released single by single. A second album is already in recording, a third plus an EP in composition, and Björn is recruiting a live lineup as we speak. Earlier singles dug into Swedish history: Their Bones In The Mist speaks through the ghosts of the Carolean soldiers who froze to death in Norway after the fall of Charles XII. That is native storytelling of the kind we keep pointing at, from Walg to Fluisteraars to Urzirkel. Sweden writing about Sweden, in the dark.

One man, a studio, a multi-year plan and no label. Keep an eye on this one.
