Draconian — The Face of God, live debut in São Paulo
The Face of God got its live debut on 16 May 2026 at Carioca Club, São Paulo, and the band's own camera caught it. Seven and a half minutes of new Draconian with Lisa Johansson singing it on stage for the first time. The studio restoration was the story in May. This is the proof it holds up under stage lights.
When In Somnolent Ruin came out in May, the story was the voice: Lisa Johansson back on a Draconian record after fifteen years. A studio restoration can be smoke and mirrors, though. Overdubs forgive everything. The stage forgives nothing, and gothic doom at seven-plus minutes a song forgives least of all.
So here is the test, from the band’s own channel. The Face of God, track four of the album, played live for the first time on 16 May 2026 at Carioca Club in São Paulo. A Swedish doom band debuting new material to a Brazilian crowd, and you can hear why they dared: that audience sings, mourns and holds silences like the music asks. South America has always understood doom better than its reputation suggests.
And Johansson holds it. The long notes that make this band what it is come out unforced, the heaviness underneath stays patient, and the song’s slow build survives the room. Fifteen years away, first album back, new song on foreign soil. That is confidence, and it is earned.
The album drop from May has the full restoration story and the review scores. This video is the part reviews cannot measure.
