European Metal Festivals 2026
No algorithm. No sponsor placement. Just the festivals I'd spend my own money on. Sorted by month. Rated by gut feeling.
Europe is where metal festival culture actually lives. Not the corporate parking-lot package tours of North America — the real thing. Permanent infields built into French farmland. Slovenian river valleys turned into metal cities for a week. German fields that have hosted Wacken since 1990, and Belgian campsites that sell out before the lineup is announced. There are over a hundred metal festivals across the continent in any given summer. This guide is sixteen of the ones that matter.
The shortlist for European metal festivals 2026 below is geographically honest. Belgium gets three slots: Graspop Metal Meeting, Alcatraz, and Desertfest Antwerp. Germany gets four: Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Party.San, and Rock Hard. The UK has Download, Bloodstock, and Damnation. France has the one and only Hellfest. The Netherlands gets Roadburn — the most influential boutique metal festival in Europe. Slovenia keeps Metaldays alive in Tolmin. Norway has Inferno in Oslo, the home of black metal. Denmark has Copenhell. The Czech Republic delivers Brutal Assault inside an 18th-century military fortress.
The ratings are mine. Three flames means I would clear the calendar for it. Two flames means I will go again when the lineup is right. One flame means it is on the radar. The comments below each festival are not press copy — they are the things I would tell a friend over a beer. Scroll by month, or jump straight to the country you are travelling from.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhell 2026 is Denmark's biggest metal festival, held on the Copenhagen waterfront from 17-20 June. Scandinavia's signature production, public-transport-friendly site, and a lineup that always punches above what a four-stage festival should be able to book.
