Home turf. I have been going to Graspop since before they added the fourth day, and every year the same thing happens. I tell myself I will pace it this time. I never do.
Dessel is a village in the Kempen. Flat. Sandy. The kind of place where nothing happens for 361 days a year. Then Graspop takes over and 45,000 metalheads turn it into the loudest place in Belgium. Four stages. Four days. And a mid-card that consistently beats every other major festival in Europe. That is not hometown bias. That is a fact. The bands between 14:00 and 18:00 at Graspop are headliners at smaller festivals.
The 2026 Bill
This year brings 132 bands. A Day to Remember, Accept, Alice Cooper, Alter Bridge, Architects, Avatar, BABYMETAL, Bad Omens, Battle Beast, Black Label Society, Bloodywood, Breaking Benjamin. That is just scratching the surface. The depth goes all the way down to bands like Bark and Asomvel playing the Marquee tent to 500 people who are about to have their day made. Graspop does not just book big. It books smart.
The Camping Reality
Let me be honest. The camping is chaos. Beautiful, muddy, beer-soaked chaos. The showers work. Sometimes. The smell of trampled grass and spilled Jupiler hits you before you even clear the entrance gate. The food trucks are Belgian, which means frites with mayo at 3 AM is not a suggestion. It is a requirement. And the walk from camping to the festival terrain is long enough to sober you up. Mostly.
Who This Is For
Everyone. That is the beauty of Graspop. Your dad who only knows Iron Maiden will have a great time. Your friend who only listens to deathcore will have a great time. The couple celebrating their anniversary in matching Slayer shirts will have a great time. I genuinely believe it is the most democratic metal festival in Europe. No genre snobbery. No gatekeeping. Just four days of riffs in a field.
Getting There
Dessel is in the middle of nowhere. Train to Mol or Turnhout, then shuttle bus. Most Belgians drive. Parking is a field next to another field. The weather will be unpredictable because this is Belgium. Pack for everything. Wear boots. Not fashion boots. Actual boots. The kind that can handle ankle-deep mud at 2 AM while you carry a tray of Duvel back to your tent.
Four days of metal in a Belgian field. The camping is chaos. The music is not. That is Graspop.
