Fleddy Melculy - COMPLOT (PINKER PART 2) ft. Alex Agnew

Fleddy Melculy write a sequel to a song from their early days and recruit Alex Agnew for it. On paper that reads comedian guests on joke-metal track. In practice it is two of Belgium's loudest voices on one riff: Agnew fronted Diablo Blvd, the first Belgian band ever signed to Nuclear Blast, and Fleddy just put their sixth album at number one in Flanders. Dutch-language metal that fills festival fields.

Ten years after “Pinker”, Fleddy Melculy decided the story needed a second chapter, and they brought in reinforcements. The guest on COMPLOT is Alex Agnew, and if you only know him as Belgium’s sharpest stand-up comedian, you are missing half his CV: he fronted Diablo Blvd, the first Belgian band ever signed to Nuclear Blast. The man has screamed in bigger rooms than most bands ever book.

That pairing is the joke and the point at once. Fleddy Melculy started in 2016 as a gag, a band singing metal in West Flemish about a Metallica t-shirt, and then the gag refused to die: six albums in, their latest went straight to number one in Flanders. We wrote before about how comedy metal only works when the riffs are real, and Fleddy are the Belgian proof. The humour gets people through the door. The breakdowns keep them in the pit.

There is also something quietly satisfying about hearing metal shouted in Dutch while the rest of the scene sings English by default. It is the same instinct we keep praising in the native-language black metal corner: your own language simply hits different. Belgium’s metal map runs from the ritual heaviness of Amenra to this, a conspiracy anthem with a comedian, and the map is better for having both ends.

Play it loud, preferably near someone who claims not to understand Flemish. They will understand this.
