Jack Sabbath — War Pigs with Geezer Butler on bass

Jack Black's young Sabbath cover band, billed as Jack Sabbath, closed their Power to the People set on 3 October 2026 with War Pigs. On bass: Geezer Butler, the man who wrote those lyrics in 1970. Roman Morello trades lines with him, Yoyoka Soma drives it, Hugo Weiss holds the keys down. The kids from the Ozzy tribute are a real band now.

The same kids from the Mr Crowley tribute that made me sit up in 2025, except now the man who wrote the song is standing next to them. Jack Black’s band, billed as Jack Sabbath for the night, played three songs at Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival on 3 October 2026 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. Mr. Crowley. The Wizard. And then Geezer Butler walked out for War Pigs.

Think about what that means for a second. War Pigs opens Paranoid, 1970. Butler wrote those lyrics. Fifty-six years later he plays them with a guitarist young enough to be his grandson, and Roman Morello goes toe-to-toe with him like it is the most natural thing in the world. Yoyoka Soma earned a public compliment from Butler himself afterwards, and she deserved it: that shuffle under the verse riff is where most cover bands die, and she drives straight through it.

And keep an eye on Hugo Weiss at the keys. No spotlight moment this time, just texture and glue, which is exactly what the job asks for in a Sabbath set. Between the Birmingham tribute and this, that band has quietly become the best argument that the next generation gets it.

The whole festival streamed free on YouTube. Metal as protest music, played by teenagers, blessed by the man who invented the template. Lemmy would grumble. Geezer grinned.
