The hard rock band Scorpions was founded in 1965 in Hanover, Germany. Led by guitarist Rudolf Schenker, the band has released 22 studio albums and featured some of the most iconic hard rock songs of all time.

Rudolf Schenker was joined by lead vocalist Klaus Meine, bassist Lothar Heimberg and drummer Wolfgang Dziony to form the original Scorpions lineup. Throughout the band’s career they have seen numerous changes in personnel, but the core of Schenker, Meine, and Matthias Jabs has remained constant.

The band’s first album Lonesome Crow was released in 1972 and featured a dark, progressive sound. This sound would lead the band to success in their native Germany and allowed them to tour internationally.
