In the late 1990s, metalcore was first recognized as an amalgamation of various extreme metal genres like hardcore punk and heavy metal. The term came into use in the late 1990s as a name for the fusion of these styles.

Metalcore is a genre that has been influenced by many other genres and styles such as hardcore punk and heavy metal. It is also characterized by having a breakdown which comes from hardcore punk. The music usually features very distorted guitars, heavy drums, guttural vocals and intense speed.

The term ‘metalcore’ was first coined in the late 1990s to describe a fusion between different styles of extreme metal like hardcore punk and heavy metal. The name quickly became popular among kids because it was catchy and described what the music sounded like well.
